027 – Mar 23 – Morning Coffee

There is a coffee shop (shack) right facing the the entrance to the hostel I am staying at in Langkawi. It is run by a couple of Malaysians from Kuala Lumpur, who have moved here to set up this coffee business. It doesn’t have much passing trade apart from people from the hostel. They aren’t making much money, so I happily feel duty bound to buy a coffee from them each morning.

The coffee is good quality and the owners (Han and his nephew Bo) are very nice friendly people. One morning we were chatting, and they said that in the afternoon they were going up in mountains to a waterfall. They were taking a couple of other people from the hostel, and asked if I would like to come along. I said yes please and we arranged to meet at the coffee shack at 2pm.

They had borrowed a car from one of their friends, and 5 of set off on the journey up in the mountains. We stopped off in a small village on the way and picked up some local food to take with us. This food cost us pennies.

We eventually parked the car and then set off on foot for about 20 minutes. They had taken us to a little beauty spot only known by the locals. Here there was a little waterfall and and big pool that you could jump into from high up.

After watching someone else jump into the pool I decided that I was not going to miss out upon this fun.

The jump was about 25 feet and the water was cold, but nicely refreshing. After we had all jumped in a few times and played about in the water, we sat down and ate the food we had brought with us. As the sun began to go down we set off in the car again to the highest point on Langkawi Island to watch the sun set.

Bo, Michael, Jing, Gero, and Han, settled to watch the sunset

After watching the sunset Bo and Han drove us back home to the hostel. They wouldn’t accept any money we offered them for petrol, and said it was their treat. Such great people.
