I flew with Air Asia from from Bangkok to Penang, and the flight took about 1 hour 50 minutes. I am staying in George Town, the colourful capital of the Malaysian island of Penang. A one time British colony, it boasts some fabulous colonial architecture, Chinese shophouses, churches, mosques and temples.

George Town is a world heritage site, and is famous as food lovers paradise, and also for it’s street art.
The signature piece of street art in Penang
The date is the 1st March and tonight I am seeking out beer and music. Luckily I know where to find both, Chulia Street, and Love Lane. I have been to George Town before. I head off to Chulia Street and find a couple of bars I know, but many have gone due to the pandemic. My aim was to end up in D’Loovi’s music bar on Love Lane, for the last couple of hours of the night. But alas that had gone also. It was now just a nondescript type of bar. D’Loovi’s was a fabulous, friendly, vibrant, bar, that musicians loved to play at.
Anyway I found Mike’s bar and there was some music playing there. First though, I had to get past security. Which I did with no problem.
So I finished off the night drinking a few Tiger beers, listening to the the music in Mike’s bar. The band were pretty good, just playing covers of other peoples music. They even played “Should I stay, or should I go” by the Clash at one point.
Security didn’t bother me on the way out either, still fast asleep.
It is always good to get some street food on your way home. There are so many different and exotic types of street food to choose from on Chulia Street. But I wasn’t expecting to find this. I ate elsewhere.
