After leaving Hua Hin the plan was to return to Bangkok for a few days before I flew to Penang in Malaysia. My girlfriend Pani had asked me if we could stay at the Novotel hotel in Rangsit, because it was close to where she worked. So I duly booked it. On the drive from Hua Hin to Rangsit, Pani told me a bit more about Rangsit. It is a city to the north of Bangkok in the province of Pathum Thani. She told me that Rangsit has no bars, that there are no tourist attractions, and that it wasn’t a place that foreign tourists came to visit. I can remember being a bit disappointed about this.
One of the things Rangsit did have though, was a brand new overhead train service to Bangkok. It is so new that there aren’t many people using it yet. For the 3 days that I was there, Pani would go off to work every morning, and I would get the train into Bangkok.
Although the train was nearly empty, face masks were compulsory. The ride took 25 minutes and cost 49 Baht (£1.20)
In the evenings after Pani had finished work we would eat at Rangsit’s night market. The food was good and the price was cheap.
A big bowl of ice cream, compensation for there being no beer.
On 28 February after breakfast we checked out of the hotel and Pani drove me to Don Muang airport. It was time to leave Thailand and fly to Malaysia. Pani was staying behind in Thailand, she has her job to go to there.
I seem to remember it being a tearful farewell at the airport…… well I cried anyway.
Bye bye for now Pani – looking forward to seeing you again sometime soon
