Most days I will take a 2 hour walk along the beach in Hua Hin. This particular day I was walking along Khao Takiab beach, which is the beach in the next bay, just south of Hua Hin. There were not many people on the beach that afternoon, and in the distance I could see some activity at the water’s edge.
As I got closer I could see that it was some fishermen removing the last of the fish from the middle of their net. It was quite a big net, stretching 100m either side of them. They were loading the fish into plastic baskets so that they could be transported across the beach.
This was quite a spectacular operation to watch, and I was amazed at the amount of fish they had caught in their net. They were transporting the fish to the back of a pickup truck, so that they could be taken to market.
They brought along a second pickup truck eventually, and filled that a third full.
As I walked back along the beach, after having had an ice cream and a beer, I could see that they were already spreading out the net, ready for the next days catch.
It was now turning dusk, and some local kids who had scrounged a few fish from the fishermen, were grilling them over a fire at side of the beach.
