012 – Jan 23 – Monkey Mountain

It is Thursday 12 January. I am feeling back to normal now, and have got over whatever was wrong with me. Today is going to be the first day of proper exercise, walking the full length of Hua Hin beach, about 5km. Marking the southern end of the beach, in stunning fashion, is Monkey Mountain. This is also known as Chopsticks Hill, or Khao Takiab to give it it’s proper name.

Of course being English, I am doing this walk during the hottest part of the day. It is bright sunshine and 30 degrees today. It is a nice beach to walk along, with firm golden sand when you are close to the waters edge. There a quite a few kite surfers in the sea.

The hill is 270m high, and there is a tall Buddha statue facing east at the base of the hill. There is also a nice cafe for lunch. As you climb the hill, which is also a temple, there are lots of interesting things to see. You are going to meets lots of monkeys, and quite few dogs on the hill. The monkeys are experts at stealing bottles of water and food. So keep these out of sight.

On the other side of Monkey Mountain is another great sandy beach, Khao Takiab beach. This beach tends to be a bit quieter than Hua Hin beach.
