018 – Feb 23 – Street Art of Hua Hin

When I first started walking around the streets of Hau Hin I thought there seemed to be a lot of graffiti. But the more I looked at this graffiti and got used to it, I realised it was art, and not just mindless graffiti.

There was a common theme to this artwork, the Eye of Hau Hin.

The Eye of Hua Hin

The figure above I first called The Spaceman to myself, then I overheard other people referring to it as The Eye of Hua Hin. It was everywhere, on lamp posts, on walls, on street furniture. It has become so distinctive in Hua Hin, that it has almost become the emblem of the town. I have even seen it being used on a cafe menu.

There seems to be a few copycat artists doing similar things. Some good and some not so good. Anyway here are few more images.

The street signs in Hua Hin were also quite distinctive. The streets have a numerical reference. A street in Thai is called a Soi, so below is a picture for Soi 45, and I was staying around Soi 55, which was 10 streets south of Soi 45.

There were also some more conventional types of street artwork around the town, like in the photos below.
